Atlantic Canada’s first hybrid OR Uniting diagnostic and surgical teams

With real-time image guidance

The Stewart E. Allen Hybrid OR combines the imaging capabilities of a catheterization lab with a surgical suite. Superior imaging means performing more complex procedures and assessing treatments as they are happening.

This is vital when an emergency arises in the OR. Critical time is saved by having diagnostic and surgical capabilities in one room – avoiding the transfer of patients between floors and care teams.

Government supported all construction and infrastructure costs to establish Atlantic Canada’s first hybrid OR. But it was the generosity of over 200 QEII Foundation donors who funded $4-million-worth of best-in-class technology inside of it. This includes a $1-million donation by Stewart Allen, for whom the space is named.
